Laser Scanning

IMV Projects Atlantic, in collaboration with our sister company Mustang Engineering, are now a local provider of Laser Scanning services and technology. Laser Scanning obtains a 360-degree data capture, providing a 3-D view of an offshore or onshore facility. A scanning camera operates at ultra-fast speed, collecting up to 500,000 individual surface geometry measurements per second and then creates a ‘point cloud’ that can be viewed with specialized software.

Laser Scanning may be utilized for drill rigs, offshore facilities, FPSO’s, natural gas processing plants, petrochemical and chemical facilities, as well as pipeline compressor, pump and metering stations. Today, 3-D laser scanning technology is one of the most modern and most powerful tools to assist in project design. Laser Scanning is specifically being applied to expansions, retrofits, piping repair and re-routing, material and facility inspections, constructability reviews, and field accident investigations.

Some benefits of Laser Scanning over other traditional survey and field measurements:

  •   Transfers facility data anywhere
  •   Improves field accuracy
  •   Reduces the number of site visits
  •   Reduces the number of drawings
  •   Reduces costs
  •   Improves safety by eliminating the need for scaffolding, harnesses, and other equipment
  •   Shortens project time
  •   Reduces facility down time
  •   May be used on a facility in motion
